  • Different Surface Treatments | Glossiness
Though the durability of your wood floor will rely heavily on how hard or soft the wood itself is, the finish you choose can heighten the durability. Matte Finish For Your Wood Floor The biggest advantage of having a matte finish on your hardwood floors is the durability and ease of maintenance. Scuffs and scratches are not as visible on a matte finish, so if you have pets or children, a matte finish will help to hide any flaws until you get a chance to remove them altogether. It also means that you won`t have to clean the floor as often, nor will it need refinishing as regularly. The visual appeal of a matte finish is that it`s virtually invisible because it doesn`t reflect much light, so it allows the wood to appear natural and untouched, which is perfect if you are going for a natural, rustic look. High Gloss Finish For Your Wood Floor Glossy wood floors aren`t particularly popular amongst homeowners and are more often found in commercial spaces, such as gyms, sports halls, schools and large offices. High gloss finishes come with a lot of maintenance work. They reflect a lot of light which means every little speck of dust or slight imperfection will be extremely visible. Glossy wood floors require regular cleaning, refinishing and sanding if you want to get the full effect of a beautiful wood floor. The main benefit of a high gloss finish is that, because the light bounces off of it so much, when used in a space that doesn`t have a lot of access to natural light, it can really help to maximise any of the light that it does receive. This helps create a brighter room and the feeling of more space and light, even in smaller, darker rooms. Satin Finish For Your Wood Floor Satin finish is the perfect middle ground between gloss and matte, so if you are torn between the two then this may be ideal for you. Satin allows the wood floor to look natural but not too dull.It doesn`t require as much maintenance as a gloss finish, but still has a nice, stylish sheen to it that gently reflects a little light. This may be probably why it`s one of the most popular finishes amongst homeowners. Semi Gloss Finish For Your Wood Floors To put it numerically, satin has around 40% lustre, high gloss has 70% and semi gloss has 55%.It has a little more shine than satin and does require more maintenance. This is ideal if you want to brighten up a room and are not too concerned with your wood floors looking natural, or the extra bit of maintenance required to keep them looking new.

  • Different Surface Treatments | coating
Different wooden floors often have different surface treatments, and different surface treatments often have different decoration effects, and different decoration effects will lead to different decoration styles. Therefore, surface treatment is a less important but some important consideration when buying flooring. Today we're going to talk about surface coating. Seal paint refers to a variety of paints in which more fillers are added to the paint and the wood eye or other plain panels are all covered under the paint after spraying; the surface of the material with seal paint is plump and thick and full of luster. Advantages: 1) The paint film on the surface of wood matrix is plump, thick, bright and smooth. 2) Suitable for all wood substrates. 3) Strong anti-pollution ability and easy to take care of. Disadvantages: 1) Covered with wood texture. 2) Obvious marks after scratches. 3) Not environmentally friendly. Open paint refers to the paint in which there is no addition or relatively few fillers, there is no filling effect on the wood eye, the paint permeability is strong, and the wood eye is still obviously exposed after spraying; it is a popular nitro paint in recent years. Open paint usually coexists with wire process. Open paint is divided into full open paint and semi-open paint. There is only a certain difference in glossiness between the two, and the fully open paint has a stronger glossiness than the semi-open paint. After the use of open paint, wood materials still maintain their natural characteristics, people can clearly see and feel the wood texture. Advantages: 1) The wood hole is obvious, the texture is clear, and the natural feeling is strong. 2) The overall feel is comfortable and soft, which can really make people feel the elegant demeanor of the log. 3) It can ensure that the color paste is firmly attached to the veneer surface and can expand and shrink synchronously with the wood under the change of air temperature, and it is not easy to fade. Disadvantages: 1) It is over-dependent on the texture of the original wood matrix, so it is strict in the selection of materials. 2) High cost and high requirements for spraying technology. 3) It is easy to accumulate dust in the cracks in the floor. UV paint is a kind of ultraviolet light-cured paint, also known as light-cured paint. It is rolled coating through the automatic machinery under ultraviolet light to promote the decomposition of the initiator and curing into a film instantly. It is composed of 9 soles, 3 sides and 12 paints and it is an environmentally friendly paint. Advantages: 1) High hardness and strength. 2) Block the wood and the outside world completely. 3) A certain degree of waterproof 4) Environmentally friendly Disadvantages: Not resistant to sharp knives and nails, afraid of heavy or hard objects such as stones. Wax oil is a new type of environmentally friendly wood coating, which is extracted from pure natural vegetable oil and plant wax. Wax oil can penetrate into the interior of the wooden floor and play the role of protecting and moisturizing the interior of the wood. It can keep the pores on the surface of the wooden floor open and form an elastic surface, which is not as hard as the paint film; it can stretch synchronously with the wooden floor to protect it, and because there is no paint film, it greatly retains the natural beauty of the wood floor texture. Advantages: 1) Coating wax oil floor is more environmentally friendly, it does not contain toxic and harmful ingredients and has no pungent smell. 2) Coating wax oiled floor is more simple and natural in line with the concept of life of modern people. 3) Wax oil has good permeability, which gives wood deep moisturization and maintenance to minimize the possibility of floor cracking. 4) The oil of wax oil can infiltrate into the floor base to form a waterproof protective film, wax and surface fiber are combined to increase waterproof, anti-friction and other functions, and contains anti-corrosion, anti-mildew function which will enhance the service life of solid wood flooring. 5) Wax oil is easy to operate, no primer paint, ordinary workers can operate. Disadvantages: 1) Not as hard as paint film, not resistant to nail scratches, scissors, knives and nails. 2) Smoke block wax oil floor is full matte, there is no bright type, so houses with serious lack of lighting may not be suitable for use.

  • What does the grade of the flooring mean?
What Do Wood Flooring Grades Mean Some customers are often confused by the grade when they buy the flooring, they do not understand the meaning of different grades. Generally speaking, the Grade of the product affects its appearance, but not its suitability for use. The features taken into account when grading wood include (but are not limited to): the number and size of knots; the amount of sap present in the wood and its colour variations. As a rule of thumb, the smaller the knots, the lower the sap content and the more uniform the colour, the higher the grade of wood and (of course) the higher the price. When it comes to deciding which wood grade is best for your wooden flooring, there are four grades of wood to choose from. Each grade gives a slightly different look. The grades are called: 1. Prime or AB 2. Select or ABC 3. Natural or ABCD 4. and Rustic or CD In order to help you make the choice of wood grading for your hardwood flooring here are some of the characteristics of each grade: Prime/AB Grade Prime Grade is the highest grade of wood flooring. This wood is cut from the centre of the tree, the wood is uniform in its appearance and has very few knots. Furthermore the sap content of this wood is very low , usually no more than 5% of the board which leads to a more uniform colour across different boards. A Prime grade floor will have a very uniformed look.If you like a wooden floor with minimal feature and character this is for you. Select/ABC Grade This wood will contain slightly more knots than the AB grade and can often be larger in size but no bigger than 20mm. This timber can contain no more than 10% sap content in each plank, this grade has slightly more varied colour between boards. Natural/ABCD Grade Natural grade comes next on the wood grading ladder, this wood grade sports knots of bigger size than Select as big as 50mm in diameter. Certain manufacturers use a coloured wood filler to fill any holes which are naturally present in the wood, resulting in a smooth overall look.Further more it contains sap and has more colour variation. Rustic/CD Grade Rustic Grade is the final grade for wood flooring. This grade can contain knots up to 50mm in size. As the name suggests, it will display a larger range of colour variation, sap and will have fillers, giving it a very nice, traditional vintage look and the most natural appearance. For mass decoration, it is enough to understand these four grades. Of course, there are some worse grades beyond this, such as EF. The EF grade is worse than the CD grade, just like the floor in the picture below, not only with huge scarring, but also with such huge cracks. But for people with artistic pursuits, it's also a good choice.

Before that, we need to know what engineered wood flooring is and what kinds of flooring it includes. Engineered wood flooring is divided into three categories, 3-layer engineered flooring, new 3-layer engineered flooring and multi-layer engineered flooring. 1.3-layer engineered flooring Structure: 3-layer hardwood flooring usually consists of three parts: 1) A hardwood veneer always with 3/4/6mm thickness; 2) A plank such as pine or spruce; 3) A backboard such as birch or eucalyptus 2. new 3-layer engineered flooring The new 3-layer engineered floor on the market can be divided into two categories, mainly according to the surface differences of the flooring. One kind of surface layer is affixed with decorative paper and then coated with wear-resistant layer, this treatment is slightly similar to the laminate flooring; the other kind of surface layer is affixed with hardwood veneer . What our company produces is the latter. Structure: The new 3-layer engineered flooring our company produced is usually a 15mm thickness flooring consists of three parts: 1) A hardwood veneer always with 1.2mm thickness; 2) A baseboard made of pine or spruce; 3) A backboard made of beech or birch always with 1-2mm thickness. 3. multi-layer engineered flooring Structure: The multi-layer engineered flooring is mainly composed of three parts: 1) A hardwood veneer always with 1.2-6mm thickness; 2) A Plywood with several layers; 3) A backboard made of beech or birch always with 1-2mm thickness. Characteristics: l natural.Engineered wood flooring would be a good choice for naturalist enthusiasts who do not have a good budget. They have the same natural texture as the solid wood floor, which also means that even different slices of the same tree will have a certain degree of color difference after the same process. Meanwhile, the surface of the flooring will have different sizes of knots because of the difference in flooring grade. These can be chosen according to our different budgets. l not resistant to friction and scratches. If you have a kitten or puppy who likes to sharpen his claws, you should stay awake when choosing wood floor. And in the daily process of moving furniture, we should also be careful. Especially for engineered wood flooring with thin top-layer, even if they have went through multiple painting processes before leaving the factory, they are still easy to be damaged by sharp objects. l strong stability and more suitable for geothermal. The performance of thermal expansion and cold shrinkage of engineered wood flooring treated by high-pressure and glued is not as violent as that of solid wood floor. The tension of the board itself is effectively overcome, so that the stability of the flooring is greatly improved. Solid wood core material has higher thermal conductivity and air permeability, which is more suitable for geothermal heating. l Affordable: engineered wood flooring due to the unique structure of the relationship, the requirements of wood is not so high, the demand for solid wood is less, so the price is much lower than solid wood floor. l Easy installation: multi-layer engineered flooring installation is the same as laminate flooring, do not need to install the keel, as long as leveling.

  • Why solid wood flooring is always regarded as the best choice for interior decoration?
In recent years, "naturalism" has become a popular keyword in modern interior decoration design.Do you know how many years ago the oldest solid wood floor appeared? The answer is 7000 years. Discovered in the Hemudu site in 1973 (located in Hemudu Town, Yuyao City, Ningbo, Zhejiang Province), more than 1000 stilt style architecture components have been unearthed. Of which in the largest building, there were crisscross ground beams on the foundation wooden stakes and wooden floors with notches on the floor beams. The solid wood floors unearthed at Hemudu site were about 100 centimeters long and 6 centimeters thick, and they were laid on the beam to hold the floor. In addition to the Hemudu site, in many sites of the Neolithic Majiabang Culture (centered at the Majiabang site in Zhapu Town, Jiaxing City, Zhejiang Province) and Liangzhu Culture (centered in Pingyao Town, northwest of Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province), archaeologists had also found buried wooden piles and beams and planks on the underframe. These archaeological discoveries have proved that solid wood flooring began to be used by human beings about 7000 years ago and is one of the oldest types of floor materials. The charm of solid wood flooring was not only favored by the East.Coincidentally, in ancient Roman times in Europe, the use of solid wood flooring as a floor paving material was also a very common practice.Wooden flooring was particularly important for some buildings, such as granaries that need to be dry and preserve food, it was also widely used in Roman multi-story apartments. Wooden flooring appeared quite early in Italian, archaeological discoveries in northern Italy in recent years indicate that the use of wooden flooring dates from at least the 6th century BC. Now let's reveal the reason why solid wood flooring is so loved by people. 1. Natural beauty Solid wood floor has a kind of natural beauty, original texture, original color and original fragrance. Every texture contains the tension of life;every color displays the uniqueness of plants;every fragrance shows the magic of nature. In addition, the solid wood floor has a very comfortable and natural foot feeling, as if in the forest. 2. Durable The thickness of solid wood floor is usually 18mm. Because the pattern of solid wood flooring is the original texture of wood, no matter what era it is, solid wood flooring will not be affected by trend or fashion. In addition, solid wood flooring can be renovated. Even if the floor of 100 years ago is not damp and moldy, it can still be renovated. And during the renovation, you can also do some special treatment to suit the taste at that time. 3. Health and environmental protection If your family has some symptoms of allergies, rhinitis or asthma, solid wood flooring is your best choice. The VOC emission of solid wood flooring is very low. Since that solid wood flooring does not need to be glued with glue in the production process and the ultraviolet curing coating used on the surface is also a environmentally friendly coating, the solid wood flooring almost does not contain formaldehyde. 4. Take care of it easily Usually you only need to use a vacuum cleaner once or twice a week. Solid wood flooring often adds value to our house, even if the solid wood flooring is old, it can attract the attention of many buyers when selling the house. But it also has some disadvantages, such as the high price and it is not wear-resistant. You need to be careful when moving furniture and if your kitten or puppy likes to sharpen its claws, you may need to make an effort to protect your floor. Or maybe the scratches and abrasions on the solid wood flooring are also a witness to time and years.

  • Chevron and Herringbone: What is the difference?
Many people get confused about the difference between chevron and herringbone flooring. At a first glance, you may think that is the same style of floor.
